I have recently taken over as treasurer of a town wide booster group. The books have not been kept well and I am, in large part, recreating the wheel! I have a degree in management but haven't used QuickBooks before. Could I have figured if out on my own? Maybe, but with a lot more time, frustration and effort.The screen shots, explanations, and tips are excellent in helping to clarify the how's and whys.I also had a small issue uploading a chart of accounts (you can develop and enter your own, but I chose to purchase her download for convenience) and sent a question via the website. I received a very helpful response the same evening.Definitely recommend.
I just wish I had bought this book before I bought QuickBooks premier Nonprofit 2014 for the first time since she tells you where to buy it (as a nonprofit) at a huge discount though I still got a good price at . I have absolutely NO accounting or money management background other than our household bank account. I am a physicist and use excel and have been talked into being treasurer for my child's band booster club with a $250K yearly budget. Money math is VERY different from "real" math. This book has been invaluable in explaining how to set things up properly, what it all "means" and why you have to do it, and how to maintain good practices.
If you are a nonprofit and are thinking about or currently using QuickBooks for your organization's accounting, you must get this book! It covers everything from setting up your file; how to put in the beginning balances; how to set up donors...to creating the correct reports.I thought I knew QuiickBooks pretty well, but learned so much more from this book! Worth every penny!
Using QuickBooks for Non-Profits by Lisa London has been a tremendous help for our growing non-profit. Lisa's insightful writing style and step-by-step instructions make the complicated seem simple! The commentary on controls should be a "MUST READ" for all non-profit Treasurers. If you use QuickBooks, or are thinking about it for your non-profit, get this book.
Extremely well written, explains terminology, gives rationale for procedures, and step-by-step instructions in a format that someone with moderate bookkeeping abilities can follow. As a CPA, I wish I had had this book to give to my non-profit clients over the years.
While a good book, it does not solve the problems with the software... we were hoping that it would help us use Quickbooks for our non-profit. Just not a good fit and the book did not make a real difference...
London's book has been very helpful to me. As a computer literate person taking over the treasurer job for a non-profit, with zero knowledge of QuickBooks, I really needed a very fundamental book to help understand QB. This book fills the bill. I've learned enough to begin the job, and, I believe, this book will allow me to put a lot more of QB to use.
Thank you for this information. I am positive I will use it as a reference tool. And I am glad it is a kindle book because I am sure going forward that a paper book would end up with curled corners.
