Nicely organized guide to give you an idea of what your lionel trains might be worth. Like any other collectible you need to have the right buyer to get the best price, but this guide can give you a starting point, ie "is this a $10 car or a $100 car?
This book is indispensable if you are going to purchase Lionel equipment. It gives you a benchmark window to let you know where the average prices can be expected to fall and where the average excellent graded equipment price's are. If you use this guide together with your "Lionel common train sense", you can bid and buy and sell without operating totally in the dark. In addition to price enlightenment, this book provides you with the various equipment numbers that running stock and accessories were sold under and in which period a particular item falls. This is valuable information because it informs you if you are dealing with an original issue or with a reissue of an original prewar or postwar piece.
I found it difficult to find certain number cars. It is informative, but sometimes difficult to find the actual number. I find myself flipping back and forth frequently to identify pieces. Considering all of the pieces Lionel has manufactured it is worth the expense. I might add I am no expert on trains so it has been helpful to me.
Valuable to those who collect or trade Lionel model trains. I find some of the prices low, as one cannot locate them in the condition and price listed in the Guide. I find the asking prices in model train newsletters and on eBay higher that listed here.
Lionel Trains Pocket Price Guide 1901-2015 (Greenberg's Pocket Price Guide Lionel Trains) is the price guide I have always used and I am glad to see this updated version. For me it has always been an indispensable guide. One needs a starting place and I have always found Greenberg's Pocket Price Guide Lionel Trains to be very reputable and reliable. I stand by Greenberg's Pocket Price to Lionel Trains.
Guide is reasonably helpful in somewhat assessing the value of Lionel trains. The caveat is that you need to be able to find someone who will pay the cash prices for Lionel trains that they say the trains are worth.
If you do anything with Lionel Trains, you need this guide to gauge value! Easy to use. Everything categorized numerically and by era.
