Lots of good information here, and a terrific friendly voice, but the text is arranged in chunks that are repeated and jumbled around (this is the kindle edition) and the result is the book is not linear and is just a little hard to follow. This would be a very helpful book if the editing for kindle had been a bit more careful.
Good, basic information about betta fish. I hope people who read it will come away with the knowledge that, although it is somewhat possible to keep bettas in small tanks, it is highly unadvisable. He, and many other responsible betta experts, tell you that the recommended size of a tank for a betta is 5 gallons, and never less than 2.5.Though he does mention it, I wish he had spent more time writing about the Nitrogen Cycle, and the importance of "cycling" an appropriately-sized tank while setting-up and maintaining your aquarium. It keeps your tank healthy by building up beneficial bacteria that help, along with regular water changes, manage the levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate in the water that affect the health of your fish. I urge people to try to look this information up. You can't "cycle" a small bowl, and that is one of the many reasons why small containers aren't recommended for bettas.Also, while larger-sized water changes are needed if you in unwisely keep a betta in a small container, it is unadvisable to do very large/complete water changes and heaving cleaning of appropriately sized tanks. I'm not sure why he tells people to do this, unless he is referring only to the maintenance of small containers. You end up depleting the beneficial organisms that build-up in the substrate and decorations, as well as in the water, that help keep your tank healthy.Overall, I think people will find this book to be helpful and I do recommend it.
Very user friendly! Something that lacks in other books. I love the nonchalance! It makes it feel like a friend is teaching you without the annoying preachy my way or the highway you get from other books! The information is clear and i loved reading it!
A great beginning book for a quick read. Good information on care and making an environment that will keep your betta safe and happy.
After my son's betta died I thought I needed to know how to help him do better with his next one. This book answered my questions and even answered some that I didn't know to ask. Am I now an expert? No but I am more ready to try again. Not a hard book to understand like a lot I looked at. It's written so I can look up the answers to any new questions that will come up. If you're looking to keep a betta this is a great book to start with. Thanks
