I do love it! I received a signed copy of this book as a gift and that is exactly what it is! I would encourage anyone with a love of meaningful Christmases past and present to not only have a copy for themselves, but also make sure it becomes a family treasure. So many memories of Christmases long ago in every page turned. This is a 'transportive' combination of narrative and photos that will not only take you back to your Grandparent's and Parent's holiday celebrations but give you so much insight into the history, preservation and collection of vintage Christmas items.This book not only brings 'vintage' alive...but as we read we found ourselves inserting our own stories, weaving them through Bob's storytelling and Ethan's images.The photos in the book is beautifully showcased, each setting the tone for the page, seamlessly complimenting the written words....capturing or prodding a mood, memory or spirit .... and some will just make you smile :)"A Very Vintage Christmas" is such a perfect combination of writing and photography.....either would be incomplete without the other; together they are magical in the way only Christmas can be...if you love both the memories and the 'feel' of Christmas it will just touch your heart ...and become something important to pass down in your own family .
The rich, luscious imagery of this book, starting with the cover, and the straight-forward call out to Christmas is what got me. As much as I love Christmas, I wasn't really looking to change the way I decorate. I bought a case of books to use as my break-out holiday hostess or thank you gift. What I love about it is that the cover is so lush and juicy that I don't even want to wrap it. Just a big red, green or gold bow and I'm going to be done. I love the thought of handing this festive looking book to everyone from party hostesses to my nail tech. I will no longer be bringing the 12th bottle of wine, wondering if my host even knows I brought it. I did read the book, and the information is great -- but I'm most excited about being ready for the holidays, having a unique and lovely little gift to take, and no longer racing to the wine store and spending too much money because I wasn't prepared. (I will also stand up the book on the sink counter, add a red candle and consider my powder room decorated for the season!)
I remember watching Bob Richter on the PBS show Market Warriors and loved his taste in decorating and his vibrant personality.I found this book to be informative and fun.The most enjoyable parts were when the author shared stories about how he started collecting.The book is loaded with wonderful pictures of some of the authors Christmas decorations and tips on how to decorate your home.I thought I already knew a good bit about the history and traditions of Christmas,yet I was repeatedly coming across new tidbits of information.I look forward to reading more books by Bob Richter in the future.I received a copy of this book from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book is filled with an impressive array of vintage ornaments, cards, Christmas trees, and lawn décor that will inspire you as you decorate your own home.I love how creative the author gets decorating around the house. His ideas are so fresh and make me wish it was Christmas already! There are so many little details he thinks of like decorating a side table or putting a bottlebrush tree in the bathroom. Lovely vintage decorations are used, but they are given a modern twist.The book includes tips on where you can find your own vintage decorations and heirlooms, which I found very helpful. It also covers ideas for vintage cards and gift wrapping, to have a total vintage Christmas.I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves Christmas.
What a well written and well researched book! It takes one on a tour of the history and cultural context of Christmas decorating and decorations. I thought I would just read about the styles that were most interesting to me, but read the entire book. Anyone who loves vintage, decorating or the holidays will love this book. Use it as inspiration to decorate your house -- in your own style. Or use it as a reference tool for identifying and acquiring vintage Christmas finds.
