I was given the opportunity to review the book What Are Amphibians? What & Why : 1st Grade Science Series: First Grade Books - Herpetology (Children's Reptile & Amphibian Books) Kindle Edition. Here is my honest review: I really do love the writing style of Baby Professor. I have come to expect two things from Baby Professors books. One her pictures are always very captivating to the point it they were poster sizes I would hang them up in my house. Two I think she tends to use a larger vocabulary than what should be expected for her target audience. With that being said I always go over these book with my kids, so it has never been an issue for me because if the word is to advance I just change the advanced word while reading the book. However for a child to read the book by themselves I think it would be hard. As for this book the pictures as expected the pictures are great! The pictures show a wide variety of amphibians from frogs and lizards to skinks and salamanders. All of which have an artistic look to them. As for the book, the first bit of information in the book talks about is what an amphibian is. They explained it well so that young kids would understand without a problem. I always make sure to ask my kids what they remembered from the book. This helps me know if they retained any information from our lesson. I was very pleased when my little ones started talking about the habitats that amphibians live in. (lakes, streams, ponds and others) I will say I wish the pictures not only asked questions, but also displayed the answer. Even if the answer was listed in a smaller format, this way we would know if we had the right answer or not. As for my daughter she has been really obsessed with fossils as she is learning about them in school. She loved learning about the fossil record.
