For me, this was also the book I was looking for when I started keeping red foots. There are many generic turtle/tortoise books out there, but none go into detail for the red foot like this one. It was very "non biased" providing different alternatives in many aspects of care. It is well worth ordering if you have or are thinking of keeping a red footed tortoise.
I opened this book initially for a quick scan and wound up reading almost all of it immediately. It is well written and extremely informative. I learned things about my redfoots, which I had owned for years, that I never knew. Just as an example, the author said the redfoots enjoy cuttlebones.... I had a box of them as a supply for my finches, so I tossed three in for the tortoises. The next day, I found 3 eggs... and the cuttlebones had almost been completely devoured.I highly recommend the book.
After spending the last couple of weeks digesting Mike 's new book, " TheRedfoot Manual ", I felt compelled to tell everyone what a great book it is.It's just the book I wished I had, when I got my first Redfoot , almost 2 yearsago now.At the same time, I learned a couple of new things, confirmed a bunch of stuff Ialready do ( which is always nice), and generally enjoyed reading it.I highly recommend it to all.It should be required reading for new redfoot keepers.It answers all those questions you need answered !Patty
I acquired 2 tortoises that were pretty sick. While they were with the vet for a few days I had to learn a lot about tortoises since I have never had them before. I quickly got on and I ordered this tort book. Then I started studying reviews on tortoise products.... What a huge help! and this book! I received this book quickly. This book is a great overview. It has all the basics and goes more in depth on issues too. Great pictures. It really saved me and my tortoises! Thanks.
This book is a must have for red foot tortoise owners or anyone interested in buying a red foot tortie. Even if you have other tortoises this particular tortoise is simular in some ways yet very different in others. This book explains common myths amoung red foot tortoise owners. It explains ho w to feed them, what kind of foods to feed them, etc. It explains things like the types of lights that your new tortie will need. It explains different types of houseing, breeding, origin, etc. Just an extremely well written and informative book. Again i t is a must have for any red foot tortie owner!!!
This book is FULL of information about every aspect of preparing for and taking care of a redfoot tortoise. I was so grateful to find a book that was highly rated, specifically related to redfoot tortoises. There's alot more information in this book than I was able to find during hours of searching the internet - again, specifically related to the redfoot tortoise. Very well organized, well-written, and full of practical information and guidance. If you're considering acquiring a redfoot tortoise, or if you have one, you owe it to the animal to equip yourself with knowledge about its care, and this book has it all.UPDATE: It's been six months, and we continue to refer to this book for reassurance that we're doing right by our Redfoot Tortoise. This is not a book that we read through once and then put on a shelf to collect dust - it continues to be a resource we turn to for valuable information. One quality of this book that we greatly appreciate is that it doesn't take a "this way is the only way" approach. Many options are provided for various aspects of Redfoot Tortoise care, and the pros and cons of each are provided in a fact-based manner that allows the owner to make the best choices possible.
This book was recommended by the rescue that we adopted our red foot tortoise from. It's an easy and concise read with lots of great resources. Very informative and covers most anything you'd need to know to take the best care of your red foot.
This is a book you must have if you are going to raise redfoot tortoises. Clear concise information. Mr Pingleton probably answers every question you might have. I liked it so much I bought an second copy.
