For folks that are interested in keeping aquatic turtles and have no prior experience, a good start is to assess your commitment in ensuring long term care for your reptilian friend. That is, can you afford to keep up with the turtle's requirements? Can you provide it with a good home that's proportional to its size as it grows? Can you afford to pay for all its food, medicine, filter replacements and other necessities? Are you capable for providing all the turtle's core essentials, such as lighting and vitamins?This book help you assess some of these qualification in keeping turtles. This book is very easy to read making it an enjoyable read for any would-be or experienced turtle keepers. It provides the essential and basics of raising popular aquatic turtle species, which is sufficient for most pet owners.I recommend it with Aquatic Turtles (Complete Herp Care) especially if you are a first timer.
It's a great book for first timers, or for anytime for anyone who wants to or already has some pet turtles. Very colorful. Very useful information on even just learning about turtles. Turtle on the cover is cute too.
I bought this book hoping to learn about a plethora of turtle breeds. The selection is a little smaller than I anticipated. I didn't find anything about painted turtles, which is ironically enough on the cover of the book. I was hoping to learn more about those and also the common musk, also known as the stinkpot turtle.It does provide some tank setups and a list of supplies to buy, which is very useful. Also has a section of turtle first aid and how to treat them.
The book was very basic if you ask me. Ok for a child interested in getting turtles. Very basic information.
I was looking for info about my Red Eared Slider - a breed that is not covered in this book. Written for children. Very basic overview.
A must read before you get a turtle as a pet. Filled with valuable information about breeds, care and general turtle information. Makes a great gift for turtle lovers.
