Ultimate Bonsai How To Guide - 2012 Edition

This book will guide the beginner bonsai enthusiast in all aspects of creating their own miniature gardens which will leave them with a feeling of accomplishment and we are sure, many comments and questions from others who will appreciate the time and dedication that you have put into creating such a masterpiece. It will guide you through all the stages of developing many different types of bonsai, including miniature bonsai gardens, mame bonsai (being the smallest of the bonsai group), weeping and cascading bonsais, outdoor and indoor bonsais, and rock bonsais, to name only a few of the many varieties. It begins with a brief history of the bonsai, goes on to list the various types of bonsais, how to choose the bonsai best for you (whether it be growing from seed, from the wild, a nursery, or perhaps from a planting you already have in your yard). It will help you in mixing the special bonsai soil mixtures, the techniques for planting and pruning of bonsais, wiring techniques for bonsais, and an instructional guide for the most popular bonsais which informs you as to when to fertilize your bonsai (and what type of fertilizer to use), when to debud your bonsai, transplant your bonsai, trim the root ball of your bonsai and what to watch for with respect to parasites and diseases that may afflict your bonsai. There is also a watering guide for bonsai, an all important factor considering the small amount of soil used in a bonsai planting, and when, where and how they should be maintained in each season of the year. There is also an important section which deals with propagation of your bonsai, whether it is by way of grafting, air or ground layered or by way of seeds or cuttings. If you wish to know how to prematurely age your bonsai (“jin”) this book simplifies the manner in which to do so such that your planting, which may only be 2 or 3 years old, can be aged to look many years older. In essence, this book explains most, if not all, of the bonsai basics and can turn you into someone whose hobby can become creation of these exquisite, miniature wonders which resemble their giant friends of nature but can be kept on your own kitchen window.

I have been fascinated with bonsai since I was a teenager as I'm sure many were after first seeing Karate Kid.Up until about 2 years ago though I had never seen a true bonsai in person, but when I did - I was blown away. It is absolutely amazing how these tiny little trees can have so much life & wonder captured in their roots, branches & surrounding landscape.I finally decided to pursue the art of bonsai on my own and this is the first book I purchased. I'm happy to say that it was well worth it, and after reading it I have already started on my first bonsai. This book covers pretty much every subject you could want if you are just getting started with bonsai, as well as some more advanced subjects (like bonsai jin & shari).A few of the advanced topics could be more in depth, as they are glanced over as to not overwhelm the reader.I almost like it better that way, so I don't get confused right out of the gates.I would definitely recommend this book for a beginner to intermediate bonsai hobbyist. If you already have all the basics nailed down you might still pick up a few tips but it is definitely written for new comers to the hobby (which is a good thing).

I found this book full on good, clearly written advise on the basics of not killing your bonsai, and plenty of tips for making them look as beautiful as possible. The photos and diagrams were well chosen, too. My one wish is that it were a little longer and more in-depth on the process of actually beginning a bonsai from scratch.

I have been growing bonsai for about ten years, and I found plenty of easy to understand info to help my trees. I've never taken any classes, just videos and books. This may have been the best one yet, covering every important subject. If you are new to bonsai, this book will give you confidence with your tree(s) without confusing you. A MUST HAVE

I found this read very informative about the subject of Bonsai. The information has enough depth to really help a novice start a Bonsai collection. After getting started this book will also be a reference as time goes by to reinforce your learning of the subject. I think I'll keep this guide very close to my efforts with Bonsai as it is well presented and organized. This guide is perfect for beginners and intermediate Bonsai gardeners.

I have always wondered about bonsai trees I have actually at one time almost bought one. This book is targeted for beginners the author says but I cannot imagine what else there is to bonsai trees. If you are getting started there is enough information in here to overload your senses but surely it will give you a good footing as to the type you would like as well as how to take proper care of it and groom it. The bonsai is a very interesting tree. Bonsai - literally translates to tree in a dish something I learned today that I will remember. If you have ever been curious and are thinking about bonsai this is for you. I personally think I am going to hold off on bonsai but this is just because my life is pretty full right now and I am thinking about doing an indoor garden but in the future I could see my self having something like this this would be pretty cool.

it is full of good information .... not quite as much as I wanted though....but a great beginning. I am new to doing bonsai and so have been avidly reading many books on the subject....this one is a keeper.

This book was adequate in it's content but needed either photos or illustrations to describe the text. There also seemed to be a definite lack of editing because there were too many typos. I felt like I was reading a mediocre translation. Thanks to Kindle I did not waste the purchase price.

Book has some good information. A good place to start if you know little about bonsai. My main complaint about this book is the poor editing. With the numerous spelling and grammar mistakes I felt I was reading something written by a junior high student.
