I own the other fruit and vegetable in pots book from DK. This one is a million times better. It spends anywhere from 1/2 a page to 6 pages on the planting/harvesting/etc of each fruit/vegetable/herb that it features, It tells you what size pot to use, what pot material works best(clay, metal, wood, etc), what type of soil to use, etc for each fruit/veg/herb. Lots of plants featured, not just the typical stuff that most people what to grow (tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger, apples, etc). It even features olives, guava, pineapple, tomatillo, etc. Really great book! My mom's an experienced fruit and vegetable home gardener and comes from a long line of farmers and gardeners and even she learned a thing or two from this book! I've never actually planted and cared for anything (by myself) before but with this book I'm confidant that I can do it.
Forget most other books. You must have this one. I have read tons of container gardening books and this is the ONE. Easy to understand and full of information that is useful. Great for beginners or a nice brush up for experienced gardeners.I live in an apartment and it is a very hard transition from having garden plots. This book really helped. It is great to use with kids also.
I found this book to be a very helpful reference book for growing favorite vegetables, nothing too exotic for me. When I need a quick reference or just a bit of information about growing vegetables in pots, I take this book of my shelf first. As a new gardener, the pictures and narrative have been both informative, and useful. From my growing collection of "growing in pots" books, this has become my favorite.
I am an avid gardener and love to grow things, this book give you very detailed information so you can grow delicious vegetables right on your patio or back porch.
As someone new to container gardening, I found this book to be a wonderful resource. I love the layout, the photos, the drawings, the index...I love it all. I highly recommend it.
