I found the book both entertaining and informative. The photography and description of the material is excellent. As an amatuer historian on the subject, I found it to be educational as well as concise and pointing out subtle items which could have been overlooked by the casual observer. It is one of those books the reader can either read from cover to cover or open anywhere and dig right in.It covers all aspects of turn-of-the-century attire and accouterments from the working cowboy to the Wild West Show performers. Excellent and entertaining.
This is a very good book for those interested in all the various accessories that the cowboy (and cowgirl) used. It is a good reference for old west living history groups that need to authenticate costume articles to a particular time period. The pictures are top quality.
It has a great number of photos that show details of western clothings, accessories, and other items. As a costume designer, I need to see the details for my research, and this book helped me a lot.The book shows everything from hats, bandanas, leather cuffs, spurs, to boots. It also has a nice section on cowgirls.
Great boot with many photos of various cowboy gear. Plenty of variations of hats, chaps, spurs, weapons with photos from various collections as well as many historic photos of the actual items in use. I've had this book for over 2 weeks and I find myself picking it up daily and enjoying it each time I do.
I'm a western artist with work in museums and collections around the world. I'm always in need of reference in order to create something authentic in the studio. This book surpassed anything that I expected. Chock full of wonderful photographs that I'm sure will help me when looking for just the right detail in a painting. Not only that, but it inspires me to ideas that I might not have thought of. If you've always been a fan of westerns on TV or at the movies, you'll appreciate knowing the details about things you see on the screen. I'm the type that pauses DVD movies to look at costumes, objects and scenery in a frame and thinks "Wow. Look at THAT." This book's the same way. WOW. Look at THAT!
We found this book in the Lobby of the Pagosa Springs Resort. It was very pleasant to look through the pages and there are wonderful colorful pictures and old photos from the Old West. I wanted to read the captions and articles but there was not time for that. When we returned home I looked for a copy on which was reasonably priced. It makes a great coffee table book for people who live in the West were the cattle trails and cowboys lived and rode.
A most delightful book with a nice mix of vintage photos and beautiful color photos of vintage items. If you like the old west for any reason, this book will just make you like it that much more. A wonderful addition to my old west library.
This book is one of the best on the subject of equipment used by Cowboys of the Old West. The quality of the book is outstanding with its heavy glossy pages & beautiful color photographs. Everything from spurs to saddles are reviewed. Truly a work of art!
