I really like this book for a variety of reason. First of all, I teach nursing and teamwork and collaboration is now a focus of our curriculum, especially interprofessional teamwork and collaboration for better patient outcomes. I also have a group project in my course for beginning nursing students and while I think group work is essential to professional practice, the groups always have interpersonal conflicts (always!). So, I am on the look out for simple advice on how to help my groups work better and to add to the curriculum. As this book says, it has been used in the past as a textbook. This is actually the second edition of the book with a title change. The first book was entitled "Team Geek" and the focus was really specific looking at teamwork in engineering and software development. The authors say that since that book came out 4 years ago there has been a demand for a more generalized edition looking at teams in professional practice (no matter what that practice is). While this book still has that software focus, much of the information has been generalized to be applicable to almost any group and collaboration situation. I also like that there is a section on servant leadership (which I try to introduce to my students early on as a viable leadership model) and I love the focus on working with the difficult person on a team. The chapters that are particularly applicable to generalization to teams (including professional nursing) include "Building an Awesome Team Culture"; Ever Boat Needs Captain (about leadership in teams); my favorite is "Dealing with Poisonous People.
