I looked at many other landscaping books and this is the best one and easiest to use for my area. I am so happy with this book. We have a new home and I used this book to redo all the landscaping around the house. It looks great!!
This book was an amazing asset after building our new home on a lot that was once forest land. Tons of great tips on tree and plant selection, installation, and maintenance. Also the trees and plants are divided into many useful sections. Lots of great photos. The only con is that the book doesn't list the negative aspects of trees and plants, such as those that are prone to disease or insect infestation. This book is just a tool; you must investigate other sources to get the full picture. It's certainly a great starting point, and is always my first go to book.
Landscaping 1 2 3 for zones (5&6) is a great book. I borrowed my daughter's copy and both my neighbor and I boght one for our libraries. My neighbor took horticulture in high school and said that Lanscaping 1 2 3 is one of the best books that she has seen for the homeowner. It tell you about trees, shrubs, vines and groundcovers. It tells you how much space the shrubs vines and groundcovers will take up when they are mature. I just put in a rock garden and this book was a great help.
I checked this book out from my local library and decided it was worth purchasing. It is very educational and has so much information of different types of trees, shrubs, vines and groundcover and address issues like screening etc...as well. I was even more surprised and excited to find this regularly $30 book in the used section for under $5.00 including shipping! Another reason to love !!
I recently purchased a home with my first yard and this book is really helpful in figuring out your different options in groundcover, shrubs, trees, vines, perennials. I love that all featured plants are good for my zone. Also the introductory part about landscaping properly was very enlightening. I have since bought this for a friend who also has a first time yard and she really likes it too.
