I read through this in about an hour. While the book is very lovely, with exquisite photography and nice graphics, there just wasn't much here that, as only a basic gardener, I didn't already know.
very informative, now i know why my spinach went to seed both last summer and again this spring/summer...now i'll replant it in fall.
Easy to read. Entertaining. Exactly what I was looking for. Used the information gained and shared it with 100 5th graders. The man is a true patriot teaching us self sustainability. I now have the ability to choose healthy organic gmo free food all year round.
I like his easy to read style despite the Utah colloquial grammatical errors. I lived there for a time and cringed to hear even professors speak that way. Putting all that aside, the book was filled with interesting ideas that could allow a family to grow nearly all their produce all year long.
Best book on winter gardening. I am having great success this winter growing lettuce, spinach, etc., in a cold frame in Northern Utah.
Looking for easy, inexpensive ways to grow or harvest food in winter? This book is for you! The author focuses primarily on the oldest, most trusted methods: cold frames and hot beds. He offers easy to follow advice on making both. You'll also find specific advice on the best seeds for winter gardens, information on overwintering veggies in the ground or in a cool garage or cellar, and fascinating information about the author's geothermal greenhouse. Oddly missing are any thoughts on tunnels, and some favorite winter gardening veggies aren't mentioned. On the other hand, I've never seen such detailed information on geothermal greenhouses, or on growing melons in hot beds, or on growing mangels. Overall, this is THE book I recommend for those who've never winter gardened before.Kristina SeleshankoProverbs Thirty One Woman blogspot.com
This is a great guide for those of us who want to grow foods through out the winter season and get a huge jump on those last frost dates.
It was exactly what I was hoping it to be. It gave the techniques to have a Winter garden without power.
