Crosswords And Puzzles (A Millie Holland Cat Cozy Mystery Series Book 1)

Millie Holland spends her days writing advice columns, reading mystery novels, watching crime shows, and tending to her family of cats with diverse and quirky personalities. A sixty-ish divorcee, she keeps a precise schedule and a close watch on her early retirement complex in Ft. Lauderdale. Little did she know her curiosity and penchant for solving puzzles would lead her to play amateur sleuth when her next door neighbor, Mr. Williams, turned up dead. The police are convinced there’s nothing to investigate, but Millie knows better and won’t rest until the people who stole Mr. Williams’ life from him pay with years of their own spent in prison. In her bumbling way – and despite the distraction of five felines and lack of confidence of the overworked Officer Marx – Millie launches her own brand of investigative efforts, with nothing more than her wit, intelligence, and imitation of Prime Time law enforcement.

Rather a "light-weight" mystery....easy read in a few hours.I liked it enough to read several of Ms Davis' books, but I think I'm done now.If I remember correctly, there were quite a few editing errors that irked me, but it seemsthese days (so much self-publishing) that this is becoming the "norm". I truly hate to see this happening.Good thing I'm getting them cheap/free on Kindle or I'd be reading with a red pen and the books would bebleeding out.

Millie and the detective are great at solving crimes, separately.Millie is charming and loves to solve crimes on TV, then she solves a real one in her own neighborhood. She discovers she is quite good at it too. This is book 1 of 3 books available so far.I bought all 3 and read them in less than a week.Definitely recommend you read this book and the others in the series.

Cover lady looks 85, not 60. Story was way too short, read this book in 20 minutes or less. Just not enough. Seems like Nancy Davis could have made the story longer or had some clues. Before you could find yourself caring about the characters, the story was over. Not a bad read, just too short, cut and dried..

I liked Molly, very intelligent and humorous. Quite a wordsmith. Her cats have traits common to all cats, but are actually ,very special. The way they interact is sweet.

I really wanted to like this. I love cats, I am a woman of a certain age, I like a good, though great would be better, mystery. This book failed badly on all fronts. While the cats are described early on and set up to be valuable in the story, they are just a back drop and the author uses some absolutely abhorrent descriptive words to describe their napping activities: i.e.: "organized as a Nazi regime", and "Hitler himself".The protagonist could have been so much more, as it stands, she's just a nosy cat lady.

I am looking forward to the next book on Millie! She is just the neatest PI I have read about in a while. Just trying to make her neighborhood safe for all to live. She is not a ex-military, or a secret agent type. Just a precious soul with a lot of extra time. Although her cats would rather have her at home with them, eating popcorn, watching "one of her shows"!!! A have to read if you are not into the deep gore some mystery books lead you to. Thanks Ms. Davis for Mille!

Short but full of great cat/human communication....... Reminded me of my own kitties! Looking forward to more from this author.
