Ms. Golden writes in an easy flowing style that grabs you within the first pages and doesn't let you go. Her writing continued to do this in the third installment 'The Cats That Told a Fortune'. I found myself transported into the story, spending the day immersed in this book. Her attention to detail of place and time allow the reader to 'live' the story along with the main characters. The plot is woven in such a way to emphasize the mystery as well as the infamous cats who steal your heart. A wonderful cozy read that kept me guessing as to who the villain was right until the end. I highly recommend this wonderful cozy mystery. I do suggest you start with the first book so as not to miss out on any part of Katherine and the cats' journey. This is one author to watch as she only gets better with each book. I can't wait for the next book to be available.
I loved this book and its between a 4 and 3 star/ I'd say 5 star the writing was great, the portrayal of the cats was great. The characters were fleshed out some, and I am not sure if she intended to just do a short book, but it suddenly ended when you wanted to know what happened with Jake, and the others. That's the only reason its a 3 star the abrupt stop.
Karen Golden cannot write fast enough for me! I am in withdrawal already. This time it's Hallowe'en in Eerie, Indiana. There's a Covered Bridge Festival, a fish fry at the firehouse and Katz is hosting a party for some friends. Besides these events she is teaching her first class of students in computer training. Meanwhile, a serial killer is on the loose in the area.Katz has only a few months to go before she will have lived in her late aunt's pink mansion for one year. Then she will inherit her aunt's millions and millions of dollars and her cats as well. That's if she can survive her encounters with the local "Mafia" family and protect herself and her cats from murderers and mayhem.Karen Golden knows her Siamese cats and her descriptions of their antics and conversation are spot on. I have truly enjoyed these first three books in her series and can't wait for the next. Highly recommended!
It is a cute story. Nothing else. Previous books by the author had a mystery attached, this did not. I kept waiting for her to do some sleuthing to solve a mystery, but nothing. I read this in between cooking dinner as I had no problem putting down and coming back. I have read the previous books in this story and will probably buy the next as only $1.99.
People a very good read. Katz has her computer class room all set up, now all she has to do is choose the four students with one extra, in case one cannot attend. So, she lets her cats pick out five cards with the names of the candidates, out of this bowl where she placed them. Michelle, who works at the library, Glen Frye-a lover, Leslie, Waynes girlfriend, and Barbie Saunders, the only daughter of Erie's crime boss, who's attitude was so gross that Katz through her out of the class. Stacy Grimes is the replacement, a widowed mother. Will there be trouble from the crime boss? There is a serial killer in town who targets young girls with long hair parted down the middle. Stacy is one of the victims, she is in a comma at the hospital.Katz holds a Halloween party with magic tricks and fortune tellers. When the party is over, Katz discovers that Iris, her seal point cat is missing. She remembers that Barbie had asked if the cat was worth a lot of money and would she sell her?People this is a real page turner, who is the serial killer and who stole Iris?
I really enjoyed the book, only wish I had known that there were two predecessors. That was my own fault and I'll order the other two books as well, so I can read up how the cat family ended up in the mansion. However I found the book could have been flashed out a bit more with details. The book appears to be a good size book with plenty of pages but the pages are filled with large print and not fully used. I had expected more in that aspect. Therefore it was disappointing that in one short day I finished the story. The story line was cute and of course as a life long owner and lover of Siamese cats it was right along my alley.
This is the third book in this series and, from my standpoint, each story is getting better. The additional characters in this book were really entertaining for the most part - especially during the Halloween party. The main character, Katherine, seems to attract trouble no matter what she tries to do and the cats only add to her problems! This book is for someone who really likes cats because they take up a good part of the story. It is not a great book but it is a fun and quick read and I do recommend it.
Do you believe in fortune tellers, the mob, and traveling road shows? Does murder and a catnapping interest you? Well if this is your cup of tea, this is a good book for you.Katherine has finally moved back into the pink lady and has opened her class for teaching computers to people in town. When her first class goes wrong, she “expels” one of her first students. This action causes things to go downhill from there. This is the third in the series and it is a really entertaining series. I love the descriptions of the renovations on the house, the character development and the cats. If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for?
