I purchased the Red Book 2017 with regular print and the print is very small.I had a heck of a time trying to find anything and had to run for my reading glasses every time I wanted to look something up.Do yourself a favor and get the large print edition.It is so much easier on the eyes.It has the same information and I love it.
I read the red book reviews and saw that someone recommended the large print version of the coin guide so I got it (since I use reading glasses in some situations). I think I would have been happier with the smaller book even if I had to wear my reading glasses. Without having the smaller book I cannot be certain it would have been happier than with this larger version. The size is just bigger than a 8.5 x 11 spiral notebook and feels kind of heavy but I guess that is a good thing as the pages will not tear easily.
The United States Coins book is full of information about American coins. If one has coins to sell the book is not very useful, it has been my experience the book show retail prices...most prices are not current. Most coin dealers or+The United States Coins book is full of information on American Coins. The prices listed are usually retail. It is a great book on coin information. It is not a good reference book when selling coins. Most coin dealers offer only current market prices...doesn't matter what the grade or what you originally paid for the coin...unless the coin is a very rare coin. One must always keep in mind coin dealers are in business to make money...You should only buy coins that you like and want in your collection.
This is pretty much the standard in US coin books. I have several editions.My one beef with the book is that the authors, for whatever reason, refuse to state in the book what is the basis gold and silver spot price. As such it's hard to know what is the real value of coins that derive a significant portion of their value from melt, which is a significant portion of the coins in the book; certainly most of the gold coins. This one simple piece of information would take me from 4 stars to 5.
This was a gift to my dad for fathers day. He loved it, and has used it to look up his collection. He said "finally something I can really use".
I am glad they made the large print version. I use it mostly to look at mintages and pricing occasionally
