Excellent book. I own about 30 books on the subject of repairing clocks; however, this book is not written to the beginner. Unless you have the experience and ability to disassemble, clean, in an Ultrasonic cleaner, diagnose problems with a movement, bush the movement, reassemble, adjust and have the movement functioning properly again, you will probably be frustrated by this book. For a beginner, I strongly recommend other books and I suggest you join the professional association of NAWCC. You will find the annual dues very reasonable and the resources exhaustive.
Its a good solid book to begin the study of Striking and chiming clocks. Offers a historical perspective that is interesting, maybe not all that useful for the actual repair person, but interesting none the less. It does cover the basics and I would definitely recommend it along with a couple of others.
Book did meet my expectations. Illustrations are clear and explanations are understandable.
