Tommy Bahama is a Seattle-based company that markets and distributes that greatest hits of tropical island lifestyle. From Hawaiian aloha shirts, Caribbean plates and flatware to exotically spiced candles and diffusers, Tommy Bahama has the perfect towel, purse or linen set to make your home, wedding or vacation a bit more reflective of the island paradise we all wish we could live in every day.Unfortunately, TB and Co. miss the mark in this very pretty, by-the-numbers, badly edited vanity book. The book is full of stock photography that you could find using a Google search using search terms like "island" or "white beach" or "palm tree," or by visiting the iStock website. The little original photography is from the website or for promotional materials used in the stores and restaurants. In short, you have probably already seen most of the visuals. After a brief introduction, you are given seven tips to "Escaping Stress." Each small paragraph is filled with mind-numbing gems like, "Create areas of relaxation and meditation, festooned with cushions draped in exotic fabrics." I was in awe to learn that "Healthy Eating" can be distilled to 71 words. Evidentially all the writers from Vogue, Cosmo and Oprah were all on a lunch break together. Then it's onto a whirlwind tour of the flagship stores in the TB empire. No date the stores were built, no details of special services at these locations, no profiles of key employees - just nicely Photoshopped photos. Onward! The next 30 pages are a mixture of TB merchandise and unidentified island activities and locales. Model or product numbers of the items shown in the book by sold by TB? Of course not! Page 39 displays the endangered Pacific Spider Conch, as a suggestion for decoration.
