For the beginner in making artist's original dolls this is the BEST book I have found if you want to make original dolls in porcelain. The step by step pictures are absolutely brilliant and the book takes you through all the processes from sculpting, to mold making, to pouring, firing, painting, putting your doll together and dressing it. A must for any original doll artist in porcelain.
This is a very comprehensive book for the advanced artist who has an interest in sculpting, molding, casting and firing his or her own porcelain originals. Anatomy, sculpture, mold-making, firing and decoration techniques apply not only to dollmaking, but to any similar sculpture, moldmaking and casting endeavour.Patterns and instructions are included for doll clothes and creation of marionettes, as well as supplier listings. However, these suppliers are in Germany, so they may only be of limited use for those of us in other countries. The book is translated from German, but the translation is nearly flawless and is written in easy to understand verbage.I highly recommend this book to the experienced dollmaker, sculptor or ceramic artist who is interested in making the leap to creation of originals for porcelain reproduction.
This book is very informative and enlightening for those who are learning the art of making porcelain dolls, the strength of the book is the molding process, the approach to modeling is simple. Who does not have expertise in modeling, need to resort to other books (I recommend Philippe Faraut book and DVD). The painting process is good, contains tips and techniques. The book has patterns of the doll body and clothes, but does not show how to assemble, since it is not focus of the book will require knowledge of other sources. The book has good quality photos, is a beautiful design and hardcover with dust jacket, though thin (111 pages) can serve in what was proposed, modeling, molding and painting of the doll. Books that address the issue of creating porcelain dolls are rare and this book is the best! I recommend!
Creating Original Porcelain Dolls: Modeling, Molding and PaintingThis is a well illustrated and informative book. It informs on the technical production of a porcelain doll from drawing to molding and even has instructions about firing your doll. Despite the fact that I prefer making ball jointed dolls and this book did not inform on that process its still a very informative and useful book. Very good for beginners seeking to learn about the process of modeling and molding. Highly recommended.
I have 5 books for doll making. They are Japan, American and international books. So far, these book is one of the best book I had ever read. The book was load of picture from start to finish. All artists from beginer to expert will enjoyed to look at the book. It's a must book.
