I accidentally put this review on for the second edition which we have ordered. We had used a friend's second edition and liked it so thought the 3rd edition would be even better with new ideas but it had fewer pictures, more errors and no new ideas. We returned the book and bought the 2nd edition which still has mistakes, but better directions and pictures.
The book says to photocopy the curved patterns, paste on the wood, and cut to the pattern. These curved patterns have been reduced to fit the book. Some say they are 11.5 inches across. The book is only 11 inches and the 11 inch pattern has been reduced to 8.. So the complex parts are not to size. This is a worthless book.Nick
I am a farily experianced wood worker and built the large chest for my Grandaughter. Very happy with the result. The biggest problem is that you have to expand the patterns for the curved parts. It would have been nice if the author supplied the elargement percentage. Rather than just drawings of the parts, a measured drawing of the finished chest would have been more helpful to understand the assembly.
OK as a starting point, but full of errors. For example, says to cut 2" blank into two 1" pieces - you'll need a zero kerf saw for that. Picture clearly shows rectangular bedpost, list calls for 3/4" square pieces, which are shown flush on both sides with 1/2" headboards! You'll need to draw your own plans and check ALL measurements before drawing up your own cut list. Not for beginners.
I really like this book. Great patterns and easy to follow text for making high quality furniture that can be past on to future generations. If you do not have a well equipped shop, dont bother buying this book.
great book for those learning to make doll furniture from patterns that are included. Several different ides to make it your own.Full bedroom -bed, nightstand, dresser as well as rocking chair.
It's a clear book of patterns, but all for fancy antique-type furniture for American Girl size dolls. But I hoped for simpler designs that could be made by an adult with help from the dolly owner. My mistake, just not what I thought it was.
lots of ideas, not explicit though
