This book is truely a gem. The photos are stunning. This book will tell you step-by-step how some of the worlds most beautiful miniatures are made. This book should be owned by all miniature enthusists. Mrs. Nisbett has selected some of the BEST miniature artists in England, it tells all about them and their wonderful masterpieces. This book will inspire all craftsmen. This book will tell you all about there techniques, what materials they use and how the use them to accieve these masterworks.
Jean Nisbett writes a book about the work of thirty (30) of the finest contemporary dolls' house and miniature makers.Published in 1994, this book is far from being outdated. It is a wonderful book full of color photos to inspire and enjoy. At 187 pages, the book is divided into three parts: Part one covers the dolls' house in which you get to meet a dollhouse makers that uses architecture to build, an artist, the woodworker and more. Part two covers furniture: from elegant seating to cabinetmaking, etc.. Part three covers decorative objects with the silversmith, the glassmaker, the bookbinder, the potter and more. It is a well-illustrated and colorful book. This is book I intend to browse from time to time for sheer enjoyment. All in all, if you are a miniaturist enthusiast or enjoy reading about them, this is a worthwhile purchase. You can't go wrong with this one.
The Secrets of the Dolls' House makers is a great book that would be enjoyed by anyone who has been bitten by the miniature bug, houses, accessories or furnishings. The photos are great and the items shown are top quality (far better than anything I could do). I recommend it to anyone who loves miniatures as much as I do.
I thought this book was about technique, but it's really a set of biographies about people I couldn't care less about. Plus, astoundingly, there's not a single picture of a miniature! Really awful book - can't understand the 5-star reviews. Returning it.
