I didn't really know what to expect when I ordered these. I was looking for some easy reading for my 1st grader. The books come in a little carrying case - which my son loved - and they are rather small and thin but I kind of like that. My son doesn't feel overwhelmed when I ask him to pick a couple of books to read. The books have helped build his confidence in reading & that's what I was looking for. Because they come in a case they are easy to take on the road.
My 6 year old just finished kindergarten and needs to practice over the summer to keep up. These books are just right for her. Some words do need explaining, not all can be sounded out. Example, talk and walk, soar and roar, blends like ch and th. The books are similar to the ones that she was using in school. I feel that they are a good value for the price.
These have been incredibly helpful for my son who is a first grader but is behind. These are simple books, but he gets a shot of confidence every time he's able to read one without help. They're worth the investment!
My son is in a gifted kindergarten program with strengths in math. His teacher suggests these books for brining his reading up to the rest of the class. They build confidence in tentative readers because they are short, with one or two new words that are repeated to enhance understanding. They also have titles and endings that are funny to a little one, again boosting confidence. Prior to getting these, my son would say he didn't want to read, didn't know how etc. but it's amazing how quickly they can learn with the right tools.
I bought this for my daughter who is finishing kindergarten so that she could practice her reading over the summer. She really likes the books. She can carry them with her wherever she goes. She can read most of the words. I like that is has words she can read and words she can't read. I want her to be challenged but not frustrated. This set did the trick!
Great little series created by Scholastic. It provides progressive support to beginning or challenged readers develop decoding and fluency skills. Great product for home or school,
Love this little book collection. It was recommended to me from my daughter's tutor to help her along with her reading skills and speed. The stories are simple with some repetition to help with recognition. My daughter loves going and picking out a book to read out loud for practice and it's helping build her confidence. Would highly recommended First Little Readers to other parents.
They work for what they are, stepping stones to good reading. My three y/o reads them all well out loud with out using his finger. I started him on "Sight Word Readers" then "First Little Readers" pack "B". They seem so simple and redundant to me but after asking one of my older kid's teachers they said it was the right way to work on reading.
