The treatment of the Basic Stamp modules by Kuhnel and Kahnert picks up where the Parallax Inc. documentation leaves off. Not recommended as a first book for the novice Stamp user but it is a 'MUST HAVE' to advance to the higher levels of application expertise. Clever application illustrations with clear descriptions as well as compact code illustrations give plenty of ideas to jump off on your next project design. A well worth the money reference book to add to your bookshelf. .....In short, buy it or regret it!
After a few months of tedious study, I'm finally breaking through to the next level. Like many of you I've had to go it alone with self study, not having had an introductory course in M or QBASIC. I can see why many engineers and scientists decide to develop their BASIC skills especially when aided by assembly language. I can not say that for the average reader this would be a good opening primer on the subject of BASIC for Stamps, but in my estimation it is more suited for filling in the blanks that exist after one has gone through one or more of the Stamp courses such as "What's a Microcontroller?" and then read the "BASIC Stamp Syntax and Reference Manual". Even so those without considerable prior training should still expect to get "lost in the woods" where this material is concerned from time to time. The good news is that this is a valuable contribution for the novice wannabe programmer for those both smart enough and dumb enough to set out on their own to master this interesting niche. After months of long study, I'm happy to report that I'm pretty sure that I'm down to months of long study before I can consider myself reasonably competent to program in BASIC - I can hardly wait for C.
