First off, I got this book for my wife. She is certified as an Advanced Master Gardener. Knowing her love of plant's and as we just moveed to Florida, this looked like a good choice. I had talked to many of the local nursery's and grower's and was informed that Tom MacCubbin was a definitive authority on Florida plants. My wife found this work to be very complete in its descriptions and the illustrations were excellent. She was very pleased and happy to have such a complete handbook.

There are lot's of great books out there for new Florida gardeners such as Stan DeFreitas's Complete Guide to Florida Gardens. This volume is also very helpful. I gives you everything you need to know about most common Florida plantings.

This is a beautifully produced, clearly written guide to Florida gardening. It covers many subjects and plant categories in a straightforward way. I do wish, however, that it were more comprehensive. I understand that no book could cover every last plant variety available, but perhaps the authors could have been slightly more selective. For instance, we get information on geraniums and pansies and violets, which grow almost everywhere, but the more exotic plants that Florida gardeners will want to know about and are probably unfamiliar with (as I am), don't even get a mention. I have just this past week bought Tibouchina, Blue Dewdrop Duranta, and dwarf Powder Puff, none of which are in the book. Also, the Rose & Shrub section in my opinion slights the roses: I would have liked more information about types and ideal growing conditions (for instance, there is no mention that roses may thrive in bright morning light but need shade in the hotter afternoon). Growing roses in the subtropics is not quite the same as growing them in England. I have heard that the 'Knockout' variety is good for Florida, and would have liked to learn what it is and why this is so. But it's not mentioned, along with lots of other flowers and shrubs I continue to buy and don't find anywhere in the book (either under their Latin or their common names). My last criticism is that there is no information about propagation of each species, and real gardeners do like to propagate. The best means of doing so varies according to the plant (cuttings, grafting or layering, or growing from seed).Overall, a helpful and attractive reference but certainly not the last word on Florida gardening.

What a beautiful book, put together so well, and so easy to read and understand. A masterpiece. A must have for any serious gardener.

Just because I have lived in Florida for 40 years does not mean I can not learn something new about my garden. This was well presented and should be an addition to any Floridian's library. SL

Fantastic!...Addresses everything I need to know about Florida gardening and does so in a logical, organized layout. Enjoyable to read also.

We are new to Florida and needed a guide for plants. This book was recommended by a Tampa newspaper. It is indeed very useful.

Enjoyed and will USE this concise information book for all my outdoor maintenance and improvements. The best book I've purchased so far for my FL house.
