Unlike my other books which include a little science behind my subjects, this book presents only the visual intrigue of fungi as they self present in the wilds. As I began shooting wildflowers I found that learning about flora was a natural outgrowth of those encounters. The same was true with insects and especially dragonflies for which I have an ardent passion.But with mushrooms, for whatever reason, I never felt compelled to research their workings and function in nature. It was sufficient for me to enjoy their whimsical and sudden appearance in the forests. I allow them to enchant me minus the pleasure of learning about them.So this book is light on instruction and high on visual intrigue among these natural curiosities known as mushrooms. As always, I use nothing more than a small pocket camera and my LBS Macro Lens which permits instant and easy access to every conceivable shooting angle. My objective is to present to my readers the diversity and beauty in the mushroom kingdom and perhaps to inspire a passion to take up the hobby of hunting and photographing them.

On the surface, this is a short book with lots of clear photographs and commentary on, well, mushrooms. But the author has put a lot more than that into its creation...I felt as though I was being led through the forest by a Mushroom Master. The word master comes to mind not so much due to his sharing of any factual sort of information, but through his love and enthusiasm for the fungi kingdom. With very succinct wording, he manages to bring our awareness to a whole new world of beauty that most of us don't give a thought to. Before reading this book, the word mushroom conjured up images of something I'd like to add to my omelette. Now I will never walk through a wooded area again without scanning my eyes to look for possible mushroom discoveries. This book is highly recommended, and if you have children, this is an excellent resource to encourage exploration. Thank you to the author for writing this book! The photos are beautiful!
