This is a surprisingly good garden book. It does an excellent job on bringing out the challenges of gardening in this region. The contents helps you with plants, many of them low maintenance and native to the region - decorative trees, bushes, flowers and vegetable gardening. Areas covered are the basics and planning, vegetables, herbs, annuals, perennials, bulbs, groundcovers and ornamental grasses. Designs and care, including composting and things that can wrong are dealt with.Resources with web sites are incorporated and there is a regular index and one with common plant names. Many good quality photos are included, although the houses are big, but at least some examples of smaller spaces like garden balconies are included.There are some surprising omissions; nothing is mentioned about strawberry pots or that type of container planting, and there is nothing on rock gardens or dry areas. Information on lawns will also have to be obtained elsewhere.Still it is a useful source for both new and experienced gardeners.
