This book actually has helpful information for both beginners and experienced gardeners- already a hard thing to do. Even better, it really talks about gardening in zone 3. Most books about the NE, even the ones about Vermont, talk about zone 4 and 5- big difference. This is one of the best books I own for "how to" in the really cold parts of the state. Thanks!!
Lots of good info specifically for Vermont growing conditions. It can be hard to find gardening info that takes into account our short growing season.

I look forward to the Sunday edition of the Rutland (VT) Herald just to read Mr. Homeyer's latest take on gardening. I am always pleasantly surprised by how pertinent his articles are to what I am experiencing in my garden at the moment. I use it as a reference during the winter months to get a heads up, especially in January, for the next season.
Excellent introduction to gardening in our short-growing-season state for the newbie. I followed a number of his recommendations about soil testing & amending, with good results, and also the chapter on lawn care. Inspiring.
