This is a good book for electronics technicians who want to cover the basics of electricity that they would need in their assembly and test work. The table of contents is not shown for this book so I do that next. An asterisk indicates an entirely new chapter from the previous edition:1. The Nature of Electricity2. Electrical Standards and Conventions3. Ohm's Law and Power4. Direct-Current Series Circuits5. Direct-Current Parallel Circuits6. Batteries7. Kirchoff's Laws8. Determinant Solutions for DC Networks*9. Network Calculations10. Magnetism and Electromagnetism11. Direct-Current Generators and Motors12. Principles of Alternating Current13. Inductance, Inductive Reactance, and Inductive Circuits14. Capacitance, Capacitive Reactance, and Capacitive Circuits15. Single-Phase Circuits16. Alternating-Current Generators and Motors17. Complex Numbers and Complex Impedence for Series AC Circuits*18. AC Circuit Analysis with Complex Numbers*19. Transformers20. Three-Phase Systems21. Series and Parallel Resonance22. Waveforms and Time ConstantsThis second edition is 140 pages longer than the first, and emphasizes more circuit analysis and calculations than the previous edition, although it is still too simplistic for engineers. This new emphasis on mathematics is probably due to the fact that the electronics technician no longer just wires boards together as was done in 1983. There is much less hardware construction and more emphasis on design in the field today.
This will most likely be THE best money you'll ever spend for a high quality refresher on basic electricity. The author, Milton Gussow, does an absolutely outstanding job covering the fundamentals with enough detail and clarity to make this a definite "go to" reference manual for the electrician, the technician, or the field engineer.Rather than listing the topics, I strongly suggest all potential buyers utilize the "Search inside this book" application. Reading through the Table of Contents will give you a good feel for the subject matter and how it is laid out. A cursory read of the those portions of text that are provided in the search application will give you a good understanding as to how the author clearly and concisely presents each subject. And, reading through the Index gives ample reference to those topics you most likely would want to look up on the spur of the moment.I highly recommend this is book!
Basic Electricity , Second Edition , 2007 by Milton Gussowseems a solid text : more than 700 problems solved step-by-step withmore than 1,100 diagrams .BUT what is said ONLY in the Preface and I quote :" Knowledge of basic ALGEBRA & TRIGONOMETRY is assumed "So, don't go buying or reading this text if your Trigonometryskills are not up to par.So, go and study this text first : Schaum's Basic Mathematics withApplications to Science and Technology by Haym KruglakSchaum's Outline of Basic Mathematics with Applications to Science and Technology (Schaum's)BEFORE reading Basic Electricity.
Got this for my Electrical Engineering for Non Majors class. The book is really great in showing examples and working them out. It really helped a lot! Would recommend this one highly :)
This is once again another quailty Schaum's Outline book. I used it as a suppliment learning tool in my circuits class. This book would be a great buy for anyone reviewing or wanted some extra help in a circuits/electronics class. The topics in this book includes: Ohm's Law, Direct-Current Series & Parallel Circuits ,Kirchoff's Laws, Generators and Motors, AC Circuit Analysis and much more. The 700 worked out problems with expliantions in this book are a must for any student reviewing for an exam. This book is a must have for anyone who wants more expirnce or a good review of the basics in circuits or electronics.
excellent review if you have taken electrical course long ago and require refresher. Would also be a good supplement to a beginer's text.
This book is good and helpful.I found lot of examples for calculation.Certainly, I will recommend this book to my friends.
Basically a Crash course in electricity. A gold mine of information here.
