Small book, with great information. the author knows his soil, he's been at it for years, and it shows. This is no encyclopedia on soil, but it's as simple as this... if you want good soil, buy the book, and you will know exactly what to do, and learn more besides. It's short, simple, and very sweet. Helped me alot, and I know gardening.
While all of these are pulled from various sources and are the 'cliff notes' of the prepping world they give a good outline and place to start without having to buy numerous books with unnecessary information. These give you the meat with out the filer. This was particularly useful in helping me amend my crappy clay soil.
I found this pamphlet to generally have good basic information. It was only 30 pages long but I felt it gave a reasonable grasp of the basics of soil and what makes it work well, and how to diagnose and resolve problems. Overall for the price it was well worth it.
An interesting and informative bulletin for gardeners and homeowners dealing with the soil in their lawn and garden. He discusses t he types of soils, and what composed the soils. Then he discusses PH, fertilizer, moisture, problems of the lawns and garden and what should be done to correct the problems. Very informative and practical book on raising a good garden or just a good lawn. Well worth the money.
I purchased this for my wife who does the gardening. She knows better than to let me around plants; I could kill a plastic plant. She has found the information useful as we are preparing our "victory" (crisis) garden and need to have the best production we can.
It gives you very good overview of what the ingredients are for good soil, and how to correct a few of the most common soil problems. For those of us who buy books with best intentions of reading them - yet rarely do, this 'booklet' is just the right length!
This is a well written, quick read that has a lot of good information in it. I have been gardening for a couple of years now, but very much consider myself a beginner. I have wanted to improve my current garden before expanding it anymore. I decided what better place to start than with the soil. I have read several other Storey's booklets and always pulled some very good tips/information from them. So I did not hesitate to purchase this one when I was ready to begin improving my garden soil. This little book has a great deal of information and is explained in an easy to understand way. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to improve their current garden/flower beds or anyone just getting started.
These little books are quick to read and right to the point. Since I read this book, I bought a pH meter, and I plan to add some fertilizers and other things to the soil for next season. It gave me an idea on what to do, and helped me develop a plan for next season.
