Wow. This book is heavy. Really, really heavy. And that description is coming from someone who loves reading horror stories, true crime, etc.The descriptions of the emotionally abusive father are just disturbing. There is no comic relief or other strategies to lighten the mood. No scenes that are neutral in content. It's just scene after scene of the dad beratting the son and the son being horribly depressed. The ending offers no resolution about the relationship.The book depicts adults arguing about the child's SPED services. Kids with Ld have enough to worry about; why should they learn about school politics???The book has references to Judaism which may confuse the reader.The book ends with the kid writing an essay that earned an A+ but there is no mention of strategies he or his teachers used to address his LD.Again. heavy. Just disturbing.
