I read the reviews on this book even the negative ones. I have been programming with C# for a while but needed to brush up on interview questions for an interview that I was scheduled for. Even though you program in the language does not mean you use all of the features in the language. I took notes on what I needed to study. I did find the book useful. There was one thing that I believe was missing from this book is the loading of a page. Otherwise, the topics helped me study and look up when I needed a clearer clarification.
Thanks Greg for giving me the tools to refine my interview skills. I was able to go to the local Work-Force center to do mock interviews. These were invaluable because I walked out after the first one realizing just how much work I needed to do to have a professional interview. Thanks also for giving me the confidence in salary negotiations. Although the numbers are not as impressive as yours, I was able to start my new position at $16,000 more that my last.
A great reference book overall. The questions and answers are very clear and one can get through the book pretty quickly. It was very handy to have the paperback version in hand while sitting in the car before going in for my interview and the 10 questions asked in my interview were all in the book. It definitely is not meant to learn the language which the author is upfront about, but it is great for refreshing your memory and using the right words to answer the questions. And yes, I got the job.
Greg is a proven winner and knows what it takes to help you land your next job. Lets face it... Most c# applicants are so technical in nature that they lose the forest for the trees. This book helps teach you the other intangibles that are equally as important as your knowledge of programming. Just in case you need help on catching up on your technical expertise, this book does that as well. Think of this book as sort of a cliff notes to help you nail your next interview.
Interview preparation is key to getting the job! This concise work gets you there in short order. Whether a seasoned programmer or newby, I'm sure this guide would be invaluable for the software job interview! Even though I've been programming for over 20 years, without the prep provided by this book, I could have been caught off guard by some fairly straight-forward interview questions...now I feel much more confident. Glad I found this.
This book was exactly what I needed to read when I started looking for a new job. My confidence to interview is now at an all-time high. I feel armed with the information and skills I need to land that job I want and am excited to put what I have learned in action. This book is a must read.
So far, so good. I was looking for exactly this material: Q&A approach to force me into a recall experience. The book covers a wide-range of subject matter and the answers are brief enough to give a "thorough enough" explanation for the points I don't recall or haven't covered before. The only knock is the typos I've found or some of the "not entirely correct" answers. For example, "Can you create methods outside of a class?" Answer: "No." And while to the average programmer, this would be sufficient, I would expect the thorough answer to be: "Yes, structs may also define methods."
This book got me the job as software specialist at a bank. Lot of questions asked were from this book.What was in this interview that isnt covered here is writing some simple code on paper, in C# or simple SQL queries and simple database design.4 stars because design patterns were asked about in the interview but you need to read about them elswhere to understand them and no simple exercises contained.Try Head first Design patterns.
