I was so excited when the Turkish cookbook arrived. Now I would be able to cook some Turkish food . The book has many nice pictures as well as many customs about Turkey. However in the middle of the book is about 8-9 pages of recipes in Turkish! I am not Turkish. I do not read Turkish. This was very disappointing as I am sure the recipes were not duplicates and I would never be able to try these recipes as I could not read them. Buyer beware! As for the rest of the book ,yes many recipes could be used.
I purchased this book in Istanbul just after it came out. It has been in constant use in my kitchen since this time. It is ideal for the beginner as all the recipes are extremely practical and there are almost no ingredients that would not be readily available to the home cook. I would say in terms of the practical use I've had out of this book it is the best-value and most useful cookbook I have ever purchased. It's not very big, but it covers many of the basics and I have yet to make something from it that hasn't come out perfectly. This is definitely the go-to book in terms of practicality. This was my first Turkish cookbook and over the course of the years I have amassed a rather large collection - almost all of the titles featured on I have. Other recommendable titles are 'Sultan's Kitchen', 'Eat Istanbul' and 'Classic Turkish Cooking', but this heavily-splattered book bears testament to its usefulness in my kitchen! A gem.
