I was previously using a friend's old 2004 version of this book to study for my April 2016 pe transportation exam, only to find that the standards had changed pretty drastically since then and the problems either couldn't be solved with the current civil engineering reference manual due to a lack of information given, or the answers I calculated using the new formulas just didn't match. So, I decided to bite the bullet and spend the ridiculous amount that they charge for this 80 page book.I'm two questions in, and come to find out, this brand new version is also out of date with the current standards and the pe exam requirements. I am livid. Don't waste your money on this trash. You might as well buy the 15-year old version and save some money.
Harder than actual PE test but still a good practice. I worked through all of these problems and still didn't pass the exam though so I guess I'll be trying again next time, and I plan on working through this book again.
Good PE Transportation specific problems. Not too long but more involved than NCEES sample exams. Good problems that lead you into your diffenrent transportation refrences. Guides you to the pages you should be TABing. Do not use as a sample exam. Only good for working a few problems at a time and learning your ttransportation pe refrence materials...Green Book, HCM mostly.
Anything that helps you study more is good, but the questions in this book were significantly harder than what you're asjed on the test. I tabbed several problems in this book to reference during the test, and I didn't need to look at any of them. Since there are not a ton of books like this out there, it might be worth a buy, but I would put it on the bottom of your list.
I think that is about all I can say. $81.00 for less than 100 pages of content. This book contains only problems and solutions. It is relatively well illustrated and the problems are what you would expect from the afternoon transportation depth session. All in all it isn't a BAD book. IT IS JUST REALLY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET. I am used to paying outrageous prices for engineering texts. This really beats anything I have ever come across.
I bought this for my PE exam prep in 2012. I found this book very help and really good in testing your concepts. If you are not quite clear on the concept itself, solving these problems can be difficult. Good purchase especially if you want to take the transportation depth and time yourself. Ofcourse, exam was easier compared to these questions.
Practice problems are a must in preparing for the PE exam. The problems are just like the ones in the exam and the solutions help trouble shoot your approach and mistakes in detail. Definitely worth the investment.
