I have dozens of Floral Design Books and this is the best by far. There are a bunch of tips and tricks and the photos are absolutely beautiful! I love, love, love this book!
I decided to take a flower design class through a community college. I reinforced my learning by looking up ideas and techniques on the internet. I ran into Michael Gaffney's Youtube 101 videos and decided to purchase Design Star. The book is beautifully illustrated and written in straight forward and easy to understand terminology. It was very helpful to reinforce what I was learning and gave me great ideas on flower combinations, designs and current styles. I did find the book a little lengthy with same pictures being used repetitively throughout the book. I would have appreciated less same photo recurrence.Overall the book is informative and very helpful for the beginner.
I have attended several Ornamental Horticulture classes at colleges across the state of California and have found this book to be very helpful. Michael Gaffney's technique of design is unique and informative, something totally different than the ways I had been taught in classes before. The book is an easy read and the step-by-step instructions are fantastic. Even without additional 'in person' instruction, I found my arrangements turned out beautifully. For anyone who is interested in becoming a florist or who just wants to learn how to do flowers for their weddings, etc. I would recommend this book. It is affordable in comparison to any other DIY book and I feel I gained great knowledge and design 'know-how'. A great pairing with this book are the online videos that Michael also offers on his schools website. I give this book 5 stars!!
This book is a must for everyone desiring to make stunning floral designs! Michael details how to create outstanding floral arrangements. We have this book in our flower shop and even seasoned designers are learning new techniques. If you are looking for an easy to comprehend design book, this is it.
Be very careful picking this book!!! It will make you want to go buy lots of flowers and pick all that you can! The pictures are just amazing and the you end up learning all about designing flowers. I saw the author on tv and he was so interesting that I bought his book. You will refer to it over and over.
This book has high quality photos and contains lots of advice. If you want to work for a florist, you can learn the basics from this book. The included arrangements are of a classic floral design style (ftd.com type arrangements). I wish I had borrowed the book from the library as it was not my style at all. However, I still learned a lot from this book.
Excellent. I have enjoyed every page, and Michael makes things easy to understand and put into practice. Would recommend it.
I love his youtube videos. This book is worth it's weight in gold, given the valuable secret tips AND the awesome photos! The cost alone for the large color print and large print is worth it!
