Texas Aquatic Science (River Books, Sponsored By The Meadows Center For Water And The Environment, Texa)

This classroom resource provides clear, concise scientific information in an understandable and enjoyable way about water and aquatic life. Spanning the hydrologic cycle from rain to watersheds, aquifers to springs, rivers to estuaries, ample illustrations promote understanding of important concepts and clarify major ideas. Aquatic science is covered comprehensively, with relevant principles of chemistry, physics, geology, geography, ecology, and biology included throughout the text. Emphasizing water sustainability and conservation, the book tells us what we can do personally to conserve for the future and presents job and volunteer opportunities in the hope that some students will pursue careers in aquatic science. Texas Aquatic Science, originally developed as part of a multi-faceted education project for middle and high school students, can also be used at the college level for non-science majors, in the home-school environment, and by anyone who educates kids about nature and water. The project's home on the web can be found at http://texasaquaticscience.org

I'm a Texas high school teacher that teaches Aquatic Science (among other things) and I adopted the online version of this book for my school district last year, published by the Texas Parks and wildlife dept. (TPWD). This is a basic level, that does not get complex or technical but still brings up the important concepts: great for the mostly non-sciencey, low-scoring students that get placed in the class: they like the labs. The free online PDF has included lesson plans, questions and tests (with TEKs included): enough material for a whole year and then some, and mostly inquirey and lab based. I was hoping to get a bit more from the textbook; chapter questions or more detail but that is not the case: the book is a summary of all the online chapters that can be found on the website: good if you need a hard copy when technology fails. The free TPWD PDFs offers all the related lesson plans and the website has the same chapters for free. You don't need the book unless you have to have a hard copy of the text.

Great curriculum! Please consider a BULK rate for Educators.
