What Every JavaScript Developer Should Know About ECMAScript 2015 (OdeToCode Programming Series)

The 2015 specification for the JavaScript language introduces classes, modules, arrow functions, and more. I sat down and wrote the book I would like to read about these new features. This book is not an exhaustive list of everything new in the ECMAScript 2015 specification that governs the JavaScript language. Instead, I purposefully selected what I think are the important features we will use in everyday programming. I expect the reader will already have a good understanding of the JavaScript language as the language existed before 2015.

Scott Allen is one of the most successful and knowledgeable authors in the latest programming technologies and programming in general. His latest book is right at the cutting edge of JavaScript--so much so that you may find that code snippets are not working in your browser. If you're using Google Chrome browser, make sure you enable the "Experimental JavaScript" by simply typing "chrome:flags" in the address bar. Then in your code, don't forget to add "use strict" line of code to run the latest JavaScript code.

Scott is a master at the craft of teaching. This book nicely explains the upcoming release of Ecmascript 2015 with code examples. It is a quick read and will you an overview of the important features in the language. Recommended for experienced Javascript programmers.

It's a nice compilation, although I'm not a huge JS dev, so I can't really evaluate its sum value. There seem to be a lot of formatting issues, through. Usually every other paragraph has 2-3 words squished into one. I noticed it both on my Kindle and on the Windows Kindle app, so I'm assuming it's the material's fault. Probably something that crept up while publishing. Also some additional formatting should be applied when mentioning code parts in the text. It's not always obvious if I'm reading normal text or a variable name.

Handful of facts for such a pocketbook sized yet useful book... In short this is more a summary than a detailed use case for all the new features. For better grasp some previous JavaScript experience is more or less required due to the comparison with previous ECMA specifications.

I appreciate the up to date information, especially the arrow function...I have been seeing that for a long time and had no idea what it was. The book explained that and other functions through examples.

I'd recommend this book to anyone trying to get a firm grasp on JavaScript. Many core language features are explained real well in this book. Such as prototypes, constructors, hoisting etc.

Easy read for someone who is already familiar to ES5 and wonder if ES6 is only sintactic sugar. Good price. Few proofreading mistakes but no biggie.
