I had high hopes for this book. The projects look interesting with a varying amount of challenge and the authors are graduates of North Bennet Street School.So far I've tried three projects, each of which has numerous mistakes ranging from photos not corresponding to directions to vague and misleading text to incorrect dimensions resulting in wasted materials and time. Thankfully I am not a beginning bookmaker or I would not have been able to complete them. I think the structures are interesting and worthy of learning if you can muddle through the directions.
I got this book because I had just bought a sewing frame for books and when I previewed the book on prior to buying it there was a large picture of one in it. I assumed there would be at least something in the book about using a sewing frame but the picture as well as the picture of the book press was only for aesthetics and it wasn't covered in the book at all. I should have followed up and looked at the index but when I saw the big picture I was sure it would be covered so didn't. I was disappointed and found nothing new in the rest of the book. For a beginner a better book is Making Handmade Books by Alisa Golden. I still refer to that book often when trying a new binding.
Liked but not loved it.I don't know why people decide to publish a book but wants to hide the steps with funny photos.In every project, there are missing pics and you have to guess how it happens...
This book is an amazing and clear guide to so many bookbinding projects. It is inspiring, but also a practical approach to many projects. Dolin is literally the finest bookbinding instructor I've ever worked with in the field. Buy this book!
This book met all my expectations. It has good information and tips to bookbinding. I have emassed a large collection of book binding books and this fights nice with my collection and gave me new ideas.
Very cool stuff! Don't know if I have the patience and precision to actually do any of these myself; but I'd love to one day!
Great binding sourcebook. Highly descriptive of various methods of hand stitching journals. It will remain a good sourcebook. Great photos and diagrams take you through the steps in detail. Good for both beginners and pros. As anartist, I love that I can choose the high end art paper in medium I want, and make the journals as think or thin as needed. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to journal.
