this is more of a book eaither for historians or advanced learners. if you are wanting patterns , great book. if you are wanting to learn how to do it like they did in the old ways great book. if your bran spankin new and know nothing about marbling nore where to get easy access to supply's you need. PASS! unless you know where to get english moss and ALOT! of it. the patternes are nice and the history was interesting. but its not a beginers book.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I got this book thinking it would solve some of the mysteries of marbling. There are a lot of good patterns in here, but not a lot of suggestions about paper, or what kinds of paints work and mix well with the ox gall etc. I find that I am still wasting a ton of time on trial and error.

I've been marbling for several months and loving it. There are some good, practical books available...but this is not one of them. The historical information is somewhat interesting but the terminology is obsolete and basic procedures are not logically presented. At this point, I could write a better book. I don't like giving negative reviews, but while this book does have some useful content, it's really not a good "How to..." introduction.

I returned this item. Most images are in poor quality black and white and I found this unhelpful in understanding the patterns. Lots of information on old school techniques and production methods. Not what I was looking for.

Very thin book. It has black and white photos only that look as if they were photocopied poorly. You can barely see what is going on. Marbling instructions are best in color, and I could tolerate black and white if they were clear. Very little instruction. This book is not worth your time.

The black and white pictures are of poor quality and the explanations of the technique are insufficient. I really expected more

I received this book as a gift at the completion of my marbling apprenticeship, and now pass it on to my own staff after completion of their training. As stated by previous reviewers, it is an excellent book if you already know the basics. This is NOT a how-to book - for that, I suggest that you check out Mayu Silk Art (you can google it). Their four-day class will give teach you everything you need to know to get started in your own water marbling studio or art-based business.A similar book, more pricey but with more patterns and beautiful full-color graphics, is "Marbled Designs: a Guide to Fifty-Five Elegant Patterns, written by Patty Schleicher and Mimi Schleicher, Marbled Designs: A Complete Guide to Fifty-Five Elegant Patterns.

Very detailed (in a good way). Well organized, and it gave a me a clear list of materials and recipes for the solutions needed to get started. I would recommend to to anyone that is just starting like myself. It even gives solutions to common problems and tips so that your paints don't sink or spread too much.
