Generally I love Fiona Goble's books of instructions for knitted toys, but this one was a disappointment. I was expecting instructions for an ark full of animals, and instead got instructions for (1) Noah, (2) Mrs. Noah, (3) elephants, (4) lions, (5) monkeys, (6) tigers, (7) crocodiles, (8) giraffes, (9) zebras, (10) polar bears, (11) penguins, (12) rabbits, (13) tortoises, (14) goats, (15) pigs, (16) a raven, and (17) a dove. Lots of animals, to be sure, but mostly exotic ones, and no dogs or cats! There is a pocket in the back cover that contains a cardboard ark. In the book are instructions for cutting it out and assembling it. This is a cute touch. The book's full color photos and drawings are attractive, the patterns give you cute but realistic-looking animals, and the pattern instructions are clear. However, because of the limited number of animal patterns in NOAH'S KNITS, I rate this otherwise very good book at 3 stars ("it's okay" on the scale). Two of Goble's other books that I really like are 'Twas the Knits Before Christmas (highly recommended), and Knit Your Own Royal Wedding (dated now, after the Prince's wedding, but still fun).

I wish I had had this book when my son and daughter were growing up. What a wonderful way to combine knitting, story reading, and the Bible. It all comes together neatly in this little book. The patterns are so adorable and just right for the age level this is intended for. Don't get me wrong, anyone would appreciate these little animals, but the size and cuteness of them is such to captivate the younger crowd. They are perfect for little hands to hold while mommy or daddy (or grandma and grandpa) reads to them. And their animal faces are sweet and happy looking (and you gotta love Noah's top knot hair). The patterns are well written and easy to read with bullets marking each line. The cardboard ark has good instructions on how to construct it too. Usually I don't like 'how to' knit stuff in a pattern book, but these extra instructions are appreciated as they help bring the full potential out of these characters and animals. This would be a great baby shower gift for someone who knows how to knit (or for someone who has a mom who knows how to knit!). I would have liked to have gotten it, but alas, it wasn't written back then. Oh well, maybe I missed the boat with my children, but they may have grandchildren someday. I can just hear them saying, "Look what Grandma made for me!"

The author says that two of parenthood's greatest pleasures are reading to children and playing with them. This book and set of figures that can be knitted is a perfect way to accomplish both of those goals. The story of Noah and the Ark is included in the book and is adorably illustrated with the knitted figures.Noah's Knits includes patterns for Noah, his wife and fourteen different animals, ranging from the simple to the more complex in terms of knitting ability. If you are new to knitting, there is a large section at the start that shows in detailed illustrations the techniques of stitches, as well as how to start and end the knitted projects and other helps for stuffing and finishing them. I've really enjoyed reading the story to my children with the darling pictures, although it may take me a little longer to get all the figures knitted! I appreciated the little extra of the cardboard ark tucked into the back of Noah's Knits to display the knitted figures on and also for acting out the story!

The instructions are very easy to understand and I am extremely pleased with the selection of animals to knit. The story book is a plus but would be better if included as a separate book rather than interspersed within the patterns. We are expecting our first grandchild in four months and I am looking forward to presenting the ark and animals to my son and daughter-in-law. I would highly recommend this book. I just started back into knitting (after several years) and the "how to pages" have been an excellent refresher. I had some difficulty finding 2.5 US knitting needles in our local craft stores but they can be purchased easily on line. Happy knitting!

Great little book! The animals are so cute & for the most part fun to knit. Some of the directions are a little sparse, so I wouldn't recommend it to a new knitter. I have made my own card board ark using the preprinted one included with the book. Love Mr. & Mrs. Noah's outfits!

This is such a cute book. I don't know if I will ever make any of these items but it is like an art book! Just fun to look at. I hope I do try a few items.

Excellent book and very good instructions for some very nice projects. Good selection of projects desgned for those starting out in the art of crochet.
