I bought this as a birthday gift for my 7 year old daughter who loves crafts. She likes making things out of pipe cleaners, and I thought this would be the perfect gift. The idea behind this book is cute and fun, but the actual directions to make the dogs are incredibly hard and detailed! As an adult, I gave up quickly. I would have returned this book if not for the fact that half the price would be taken out for the return shipping. I've included two photos so other potential buyers can decide whether or not the content of this book is age appropriate for who they are purchasing it for. Disappointed...
I agree with other review. Before purchasing make sure you can find all the correct supplies, including long pipe cleaners, small (skinnier pipe cleaners for the puppies), also teddy bear noses and eyes of the small proportions needed. I improvised with shorter pipe cleaners, beads or tiny pompoms for eyes/nose and the dogs turn out decent looking. I couldn't even locate the sizes on-line. Despite these issues I'm enjoying making the little cuties.
YES, IN USA DONT HAVE 1 MT PIPE CLEANERS, BUT IT WAS NOT A REAL PROBLEM TO ME. THE DOGS I MADE GOT SO FUNNY, FLUFFY, THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE CLEAR AND QUITE EASY TO FOLLOW. AND NOW I'M CREATING A NEW BREEDS, USING ANOTHER COLORS, SHAPES, ETC. THIS IS A BOOK I RECOMMEND. AND I'M A BRAZILIAN, AND DONT SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL. SO, IF I COULD READ, UNDERSTAND AND MAKE THESE POOCHS, EVERYONE CAN!!!
The directions are nearly impossible to follow and the necessary materials are hard to find. I don't know where they sell pipe cleaners that are 40" long! Very disappointed because I thought it would be fun.
This is a well put together little book. But I do agree with another reviewer that some of the items cannot be purchased in America, or not that I can find, so it put a damper on my fun. I am meticulous with my crafts, so not having the smaller parts was annoying. However, not everyone is like me and you can still make nice pets, just not with the tiny details. All in all, I will still say it was a good purchase, and fun can be had for sure.
I had seen bloggers crafting little animals out of chenille stems. My mind can't wrapped around such crafts unless I have detailed instructions . This book had that and wonderful photos to go with the instructions .
Very clever concept and the dogs look great. I was expecting no less from a Japaense craft book. I have a big collection. The pictures and instructions are always great. I have some that haven't been translated but the pictures are soo good that I can easily follow just by looking at the pictures.
This book is adorable. It has great pictures of all the different dogs you can make. It has very good instructions that are easy to understand and that take you step by step through the process. I think it is something children would love to do. There are no tools needed only glue for the eyes or ears and some scissors to trim some parts. So it would be suitable for school age children. after making a few you can let your imagination go and make other animals. I hope there is a follow up to this book. It is excellent.
