This is the perfect book to take into the field while digging or to take along while hunting for bottles in antique stores or yard sales. Love it. I have this and the author's much bigger book, but this compact book is with me at all times. I toss it in the glove compartment of my car and pull it out when I need it. Lots of color pictures. Great value.
Good general info about bottle basics & collecting. Lots of pics of bottles you will never see at fleas or garage sales & probably very rarely at antique shows or stores. Could do with more pricing examples and fewer full page pics.
First things first. If you haven't read the physical description for this book, you may be inclined to think that it's a regular size book. It's not. It's a very small book you could probably fit in your pant pocket. This is a really stupid complaint and I know it. But since the book is so small, it doesn't contain nearly as much information as I'd hoped. Truth be told, I was hoping this would be a good book for someone who is just beginning to collect bottles. It has a few pages upfront on the hobby, but not nearly enough. The book still has some very good information in it, and perhaps if my interest in this hobby grows to more eclectic bottles it will be very useful, but for now, it's just a very little book sitting on my bookshelf.
This book/price guide is virtually worthless. Yes, it does cover a selection of bottles; from "Avon" bottles to "Whiskey" bottles. With the emphasis on Alcohol bottles, this category is probably more informative/covered than any other of the category's of bottles listed within this book. There is a moderate amount of pictures, but most all of the pictures/bottles, one will never find, either by digging or spending HOURS on ebay and other internet sites.(with the exception of the pics alone on the internet) The book is okay for finding a price on a bottle that is very rare or prices on alcoholic bottles, but other than that, one most likely wouldn't get much use from this book/price guide. Approximately 425 pics/price guide pages.
This is a guide that you can take with you to antique shops, flea markets or yard sales as it will fit nicely in a large pocket or handbag. The book not only lists values of thousands of bottles, but also provides tips for bottle identification, advice on buying and selling and trademarks. This is an ideal book for beginners with great, detailed photographs.
Good book. Enjoyed the in depth descriptions about the bottle types as well as the info on how to tell the approx age of a bottle. The size of the book is fantastic as I can drop it in my coat pocket when wandering around to garage sales etc. I have really enjoyed it.
Not very useful with superficial info. Not much value for the price.
