This is a very, very basic book on backyard fruit trees. For a first timer, it is excellent. For others that already have fruit trees, it doesn't cover enough of the pruning, insect spraying, etc.
Great book, well made, easily referenced information. I quickly found the problem and solution for one orchard tree's sick leaves. Tells you how to plant, prune, fertilize, how to identify problems and fix them. I keep it handy for reference.
I got this book at the library. I have two apple trees that I wanted to learn how to maintain. Particularly, I wanted to know what dormant sprays to use. This book had three sentences about 'dormant oils' to spray and one sentence was, " Use your favorite recipe of dormant spray." If I had a recipe, I wouldn't need "The COMPLETE guide to home orchards, would I? So NOT helpful. There was no other information about pre-season care. There were several chapters on how to choose a tree, prepping the hole, watering, how to put in a rainbarrel, weeding, and even recipes in the back but nothing on maintenance. I was really glad that I didn't buy this book.
Very practical book with good illustrations and easy to understand. I would recommend this book for anyone thinking of starting their own orchard and to the orchard owner that wants more production.
Good book with good detail for newbie considering adding fruit trees to their property. Was an easy read with good information to help make good decisions about planting and maintaining fruit trees.
We already have an orchard, and this book was geared for beginners. However, if you don't know too much, get this book. It has many gems of information, you might not find anywhere else.
