Pegi's book is written for gardeners of all levels. She teaches you what needs to be done each month of the year, in New Jersey. The breakdown of categories into chapters makes it a cinch to find what I want to look out for and what chores or planting need(s) to be done and what specific month/time of the year to do it. There are many "tricks" to taking care of your property and the "fruits" of your labor. I like that it is written as if she were talking to me. You can tell the level of her expertise by the full coverage she gives to each topic. I cannot wait to get her "New Jersey Gardener's Guide!"
I just received my copy and already I'm behind on planting certain things-haha! I needed this book months ago to help prepare me for garden planting. I'm pretty new to gardening in that I'm actually taking it seriously and planting a rose garden( 12 bushes), so I need a helpful guide to aid me along the way. We recently moved from a condo in Southern California to a house Northern New Jersey, and had no clue as to what to do in the yard for the upcoming winter other than rake. This book simplified things for us, is helping us plan for what we need to do in the next year, and prevented us from making some big novice mistakes. This book allows you to go month to month or you can read a whole year on one subject at a time. Easy to find what you are focusing on too. Love it and think if you live in NJ and want to have a great sense of how to manage your garden get this book!
