I am not a pavement expert, a civil engineer, or a government official, and before reading The Book on Better Roads I knew absolutely nothing about pavement evaluation or in-place asphalt recycling. However, I am quite familiar with crumbling roads, and potholes, and traffic congestion caused by never-ending roadwork on our nation's interstate highways. I now understand that there IS a better (and cheaper) way to fix the problem ... the "Three Legged Stool" as Blair calls it, and it includes pavement management, pavement preservation, AND in-place asphalt recycling. I highly recommend this book as an excellent resource for anyone who wants to get a better understanding of pavement management. Blair does an excellent job shining a spotlight on the problem, but he also provides practical, common sense solutions.

The technical information is very good and useful. The links to resource material and the on going youtube video supplements keep me wanting more. Want to save the earth, or just save money for your road agency? This book is a good place to start.

I couldn't more strongly recommend this book. This book should be required reading for everyone driving on a road. Our national and local roadways are some of our greatest assets but I see streets deteriorating quicker than repairs can be made. Our current options leave no choice but to allow our roads to turn to gravel or accept debilitating tax hikes to rebuild our failed roadways. It doesn't have to be this way and FINALLY someone is articulating a solution that is simple, permeating with common sense, and above all... an affordable approach for public agencies. But changes must be made now or a tidal wave of taxes will be the only proposed solution. Read this book!If you are an elected official, managing public works, or simply a citizen like me that is trying to make a difference by becoming more educated to influence local decisions. This book will change your entire perspective for good. Knowledge is power, right?

Everyone should read this book and get behind addressing our crumbling infrastructure and unbelievable debt and backlog of sorry road conditions. Give a copy to your local council members and street dept. Go, Blair!

This book is fantastic and packed with a lot of information on Pavement Management. I am trying to implement the Three Legged Stool System of Pavement Management in my city. I feel that we have to be smarter with using our resources and funding since they are limited and expected to go further.
