If you were to work all the problems in this book, you would be wasting your time with several topics that are not addressed on the PE Exam. However, with a little organizing on your own, you can weed out the sections that aren't present on the exam and focus on those that are. There aren't many problems in each section though, so when all is said and done I don't feel like this is a great resource for the exam.It does help though and there is some use to it. It's pretty expensive for what it is, but anything that helps pass is probably worth it (or so I keep telling myself).
This is a waste of time and money. The CERM is, of course, the most essential single reference for the exam, but these problems are way to hard to practice with. They are in no way representative of exam questions and to try to work these long hard problems is a waste of time for someone who has to squeeze studying in after work. If you start with this book for problems you will be so discouraged that you will think you can never ever pass the exam. Buy the NCEES practice exam or some of the Goswami practice exams and you will be better off. I passed Civil Geo first try after I realized that this book was crap unless you just like to torture yourself.
This is a good collection of problems, though may be overkill for what the purchaser really needs. It doesn't actually say so anywhere, but It is basically intended to prepare you to take every single afternoon "depth" exam. It would be a lot better if the sections were divided into questions that were likely to be on the morning "breadth" exam and questions that you only had to worry about if you were taking that particular afternoon exam. I realized this after working through the NCEES-made geotechnical sample book (which was very good and also has sample questions for the morning exam) so I didn't make myself crazy working on a bunch of stuff that wouldn't have helped me at all.
Great companion to the CERM! I went through and worked it cover to cover. Passed my P.E. on my first attempt! My only complaint are the number of problems that specifically state "(1-hr time limit)". The real exam doesn't have anything REMOTELY this involved, and while it benefits test takers to know the material in-depth before the test, it is perhaps more beneficial to be exposed to questions of the same complexity and difficulty as the real thing. Also, the given answers in the back often made wild assumptions that I would have never thought to make...
the questions were at times too tiring and detailed but if you go through this, you will learn. definitely solve your specialty area questions in fulli found no errors as far as i remember and the questions were good quality.one of the best (but sometimes too detailed) preparation books around
The practice problems are very difficult and I like that since it is helping me get ready for the actual test.
Helped me gain confidence I needed to prepare for the big exam! Solutions had very detailed answers. I found myself gaining a good comfort level from reviewing my answers along with the solutions.
Good practice problems, while they are not as similar to exam problems as some other practice problems I did they are very helpful to learn the material well.
