Down to earth pruning instructions. For nearly every pruning book out there, you will be given conflicting advice. It's nice to have Cass to say "Who cares?" Prune, but understand the consequences of what you're doing if you do it out of season or badly. For me it took the panic away that I was going to kill a plant and allowed me to be a little more understand of what was going on. A very good read.

I went to a Cass Turnbull lecture given by a Master Gardeners group in our area. I couldn't take notes fast enough, so I ended up ordering the book when I got home. I've referred to it many times when I needed to prune something challenging. We have 5 acres - 3 acres in gardens - and we'd be overgrown without diligent pruning. This book is a cherished guide, and it reflects her personality, which is very engaging.

I used this as a Christmas gift for the man who takes care of our lawn. He is really concerned about his customers and said that this gave him a new perspective on trimming shrubs and trees for his clients, so even though I don't have this in my library, I definitely benefit! Love a win-win!

If you're like most people you need a bunch of pruning books and a lot of experience to finally "get it". This is a great book, however, with sections on most plant types. It also has discussion to help you overcome problems like flopping, how to make compromises, what mistakes to avoid. The line drawings are not great, but you get the point. This book covers some areas others do not, way beyond the basics.

Turnbull's book provides precise instructions for many plants, as well as guidance on pruning the rest. This could be a very dry read, but instead, her great humor shines through and will keep you reading far past the plant you originally looked up. If you've ever been to one of her talks, or have otherwise met her in person, that same cheeriness will meet you in these pages.

Interesting, conversational style of writing that really helped for trimming the trees inherited from the previous owner of this new home. Covers the basics of pruning for different types of flowering trees, bushes and perennials. The chapter on pruning roses and juniper trees was very helpful. Lots of illustrations are clear and informative.

This has been passed around in my family until some of the pages are beginning to show wear. My husband loves this book and so do my parents. I went so far as to hire one of her proteges for an hour as a gift for my husband. Our yard is packed with every plant that needs pruning, so this book went a long way. I'd definitely recommend it.

I purchased this book for a neighbor. I already was familiar with the book and had heard Ms. Turnbull speak at our Garden Club several years ago, so I know that this is the "Bible" for pruning.
