Cindy Thiede has written many log home books. "The Log Home Plan Book," is a real winner as it is full of information from log home oweners/builders/designers, that may not be apparent for the novice.Great photos, combined with informative narrative make this book a bible for the log home builder or enthusiast.
I bought this book for my parents because they recently bought land to build a log house. There were many books to choose from but this one was definitely a hit with them. It has great pictures and excellent blueprint type plans. Even if you don't do exactly what the book says, it's a wonderful resource for general ideas. A superb gift for any present or future log home owners.
This book features high-quality, full-color pictures that will help you identify features that you are looking for in your log home. It also includes a introductory overview of log home building. Do not expect an explanation of the building process! This is not a construction/contracting manual or a technical plan book, instead it is an exceptional "idea" book. This is not the only log home book you will ever need, but it is one that will be very helpful during the beginning stages of planning a log home.
I bought this early on in the planning stage of our log cabin as a resouce. After looking through dozens of books and magazines I actually used one of the plans in the book after modifying it slightly. This has many plans that give you some great ideas and has enough difference between them to be a nice starting point in the design process.
This book is a must have for anyone dreaming of a log home. With colour photos to compliment the floorplans, it's easy to see how they relate. The layouts are set in a way that makes it easy to incorporate different parts from several designs. An amazing book.
This was the first log home book my wife and I purchased after making the decision to not settle for any old house on the market and to build our dream home. It was a great way to get the ideas flowing. I appreciate the layout of the book: lots of exterior and interior photos, floor plans to put the photos into perspective, text descriptions of the houses, and great side bars on everything from windows to roofs to heating. The photos and descriptions are inspiring while the floor plans and side bars are practical. Buy this book early in the process and continue to refer to it as your design comes together.
Didn't really contain many plans, mostly contained ideas and pictures of existing log homes. The plans aren't detailed enough for you to build a similar cabin, they mostly give a rough idea of room dimensions. Pretty pictures but useless to really be able to build anything from it.
Some of the floor plans are pretty good. I wouldn't say great, but we're all different. However, if you plan on building a log home this book has some very useful information on things to expect, not do, etc...
