The Goldfinch –Donna Tartt: A Detailed Summary And Analysis Of The Novel!The Goldfinch is a life drama fiction novel written by an American writer Donna Tartt. Donna Tart was born on December 23rd 1963 in Greenwood, Mississippi and she is a writer of some other novels such as The Secret History and The Little Friend. Tartt received Pulitzer’s Prize for Fiction in 2014 for her novel The Goldfinch. She has been active writer since 1992. Her previous novels (The Little Friend and The Secret History) have been translated to thirty languages. The novel itself revolves around the young boy named Theodore (Theo) Decker and the painting named ‘The Goldfinch’. One day, Theo accompanies his mother to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There, he sees a strange and striking red-headed girl. While he is thinking about the girl, terrorists attack the Museum, his mother dies, he is somehow able to survive the attack, and he thus he steals ( although ‘’accidentally’’ ) one of the paintings named- the Goldfinch, and after that, he flees the building. After these events Theo lives a dangerous and often very risky life- he becomes friend with the criminals, he sells counterfeit antiques, he gets engaged with the girl he does not love and finally- he even kills a man. The story itself begins in the first perspective, as its main protagonist (Theo himself) tells the readers the story of his life. From the first part of the story, we can see Tartt’s fine ability to retrospect the story as she draws the reader to the story from the moment he begins to read the novel. The Goldfinch is seven hundreds and seventy one page long novel, but once you start reading it and once you become captivated by the story and its complex characters the novel will seem a lot shorter. Some of the parts will maybe seem a bit boring and unnecessary too prolonged, but for the most of it, the novel will offer to you an exciting adventure worth of reading. Similar to her previous work The Secret History, The Goldfinch also revolves around one crucial event of the novel accompanied by some bad decisions that the characters made at the beginning or during the course of the novel. So often people neglect how important Summary and Analysis is to fully understanding a book to the best of your ability. This summary of "The Golfinch" made me so excited to read the book. Using it as a companion to my actual reading of the novel enhanced my experience. I would definitely use a summary from this publisher again.
Awful analysis. Simplistic and written in incorrect English. Do not waste your money on this drivel. It is full of errors, misstatements of what occurs in the book and reads like a seventh grade book report. Total fail.
I would not recommend this to anyone. It appears to have been poorly translated from another language, or written by someone with a poor command of English. It is an entirely superficial glance at a complex book, with no analysis whatsoever. Do not waste your money-it is a sham.
I maybe didn't understand that this was a summary to be read before reading the book. I thought I would learn something about the depth of the book's story that I may have missed after finishing the book. So I didn't learn anything further by reading this summary.I also wasn't a big fan of the book, so that may add to the fact that I read even more about something I didn't find very interesting in the first place(after 700+ pages).
This was an awesome summary of The Goldfinch. I really liked the simplicity in which Mr. Summary broke down the novel. It was a great read, even someone who hasn't read the original novel would be able to join in and participate in a book discussion. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but I thought the cover was really neat- in the original novel you only see a small glimpse of a goldfinch through the ripped paper. I was wondering if the author chose to show an entire Goldfinch on his cover because he is revealing the contents of the novel. I thought that was neat.I also really loved the quizzes, it was a unique way to make sure I had absorbed all the information- very creative. I will definitely be using Mr. Summary again.
Don't waste your money on this summary. It's poorly written, repetitious, and contains errors of fact, like when Theo first hooked up with Boris. I bought it because I read the book too long before book club, and it did serve as a reminder, but it was awful. The book, by Donna Tartt, however, is excellent.
The Goldfinch is one of the best books I've read in a long time! Yes it's long,and some can't get through it, I for one couldn't put it down! I was reluctant to finish it, and have to leave all my"friends" in the book!
Horrible! English is obviously not this authors first language. This book has many grammatical errors, errors of how the book went and isn't that insightful of The Goldfinch. Save your money and time!
