Though it's not plenty of images or photos, this book covers a wide range of subjects a new beagle owner should know. The best is that it has a lot of practical suggestions on how to take care of the dog, including a schedule for activities/meals, a set of tricks the pet can learn to do, health and care issues, and plenty of other information very useful for begining owners. I bought three books on the subject, and this is by far the most useful of all them.The missing star is only for the lack of photographs, but I guess it is a matter of "dummies-series" design.
Beagles for Dummies is perfect. It's not that you have to be a dummie for this book but by assuming that we are dummies, the author doesn't skip any of the basics. I have had dogs since I was old enough to have anything, and as a child my parents raised champion show beagles. Since then I have had several other dogs but it has been about 10 years since I last had a beagle and this book quickly reminded me of the specifics of having a beagle in our family, and helped my wife prepare for the onslaught of love that comes from a Beagle puppy.
This is a great book with a lot of good information. It helped me prepare for our new pet.
If this book was titled "Dog ownership for dummies" it might not be too bad, but I was looking for specific information on beagles. I expected more training information, breed information, info on how to hunt with beagles... I didn't expect to be halfway through the book hearing about how to doggie proof my house and how to choose a vet. That is just silly.It isn't a terrible book, just be aware the title is completely misleading. It is all fluff about dogs in general and there are certainly better books out there.If you have ever owned a dog or even lived in a household with a dog, most of the information here is going to be redundant. Keep shopping.If you have beagle specific issues, just keep shopping. The info you are looking for probably isn't here.If you have only seen a dog on tv, maybe this book can assist you.... maybe.
As the owner of a beagle and one who loves the breed, this book is ideal for providing a plethora of information about beagles. Readers cover the basics from raising puppies to old dogs and owners, breeders and happy pet owners will get a lot out of this book.
This is a very handy book. It is well organized and well written. I can find whatever I need quickly. It is well indexed. As a first-time Beagle owner, I have found this book to be just what I need. I highly recommend it to others.
I have beagles for many years now and even though I thought I knew just about every thing this book let me learn about more. It is great for wether you are getting your first or have a two ton tater as I like to call mine, this book is great. Glad I purchased it and the seller was great too. I even got it soon than expected. YAY!
We got this book when we took an interest in adopting a beagle/terrier mix from a local rescue group. I found the book enjoyable to read and easy to follow. I was very impressed when the rescue people started giving me pieces of advice and it was the very same advice given in the book. It really made me feel smart and well informed.
