I find the most appealing aspect of the tiny house movement to be the creativity, innovation and attention to detail that each owner puts into their house. To that end, I think this book does a nice job of highlighting the vision and hands-on considerations required to design and build a living space with reclaimed materials that suits your personality and fits your lifestyle. While the author touches on the ethics as well as the pros & cons of using recycled materials, the bulk of the book is dedicated to each homebuilder’s story, including the basic floor plans and the utilities setup of each house. The descriptions and photos showcase some wonderful spaces and design solutions, the kind just wouldn’t seem obvious using off-the-shelf lumber, flooring or plumbing fixtures. And it’s also a nice touch that there are tiny homes from all over the world included in this collection. Doubly nice that there are two very comfy looking, heavily personalized airstream trailers in there as well! For those who want to learn more about the houses and their owners the author includes links to each interviewee, plus a number of other tiny house related websites. Overall, I find it a well-organized book that’s both an inspirational and a practical source for potential tiny home owners. Highly recommend.

As always Ryan Mitchell delivers a quality book that is full of wonderful, color pictures, as well as varied stories, both good and bad. From the beginning with his definition of what reclaimed materials actually are to his inclusion of "case studies" (tiny housers who have used or are using reclaimed materials), Mitchell seems to paint a picture that is accurate and truthful. Perhaps what is best though is Ryan's inclusion of so many homes including those on wheels, on foundations, and in technically in the RV world. He leaves no stone unturned.Overall, I believe Mitchell's book is another essential one to add to your tiny house library if for nothing more than the unusual and rich eye candy he has assembled.

This book is perfect for learning a bit about building a tiny house, or any building project with recycled materials. The book showcases loads of different houses and even an airstream trailer. Each home has sections telling a bit about each home owner/builder and dives in to talk about each unique home's recycled materials use. It loaded with great images and even some floor plan graphics. If you're considering building or renovating using recycled material you must grab this book first.

Every detail you need to know on building a tiny house or any other structure/home from salvaged and recycled materials is found in this book. Stories of those who built their own tiny houses with an array of recycled and salvaged materials are included in a thoughtful scrapbook manner. From the specs and floor plans to the heart of the stories, you'll be drawn in to read every word.

I never seem to have enough space for my belonging which led me to an interest in Tiny Houses. His book is very informative and has chapters devoted to where to source materials, how to go about using social media to keep an eye out, and to be sure to remain flexible and let the found materials dictate the design of your tiny house. This book has clear pros and cons with living in a tiny home and has wonderful photos of twenty tiny homes. Each home has a floor plan and details of the thoughts of the owners and why they built a tiny home. The final chapter has resources for websites, books and Tiny House websites of the homeowners. I was gifted this eBook in return for an honest review. Available May 1, 2016

This book is beautifully put together. Many people who are looking at tiny houses are not only hoping to find a lower cost of living there, but also to make a smaller environmental footprint. Mitchell and those who share their homes in this book share what they did as well as the pros and cons of both the process and tiny home living. Well done!I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
